Are you ready to start a blog?
Starting a blog is a great way to make money online, and do something you love for a living. And lucky for us, starting a blog isn’t rocket science!
If you’ve been having the desire to start your own online business, here’s exactly how to start a blog.
How to Start a Blog
Pick a Niche
This is the first step in creating a blog, and it’s the most fun in my opinion! Now it’s time to whip out your notepad and jot down the things you’re most passionate about. What ignites a fire in your soul? What is something you could talk about for hours? Is there a problem you’d like to see solved in the world?
Some examples of blog niches are:
- Beauty & Makeup
- Food & Recipes
- Finance Tips
- Interior Design
Take the time to ponder your hobbies & skills, and decide on a niche for your blog. This will help you focus down on what you’re going to write about, and keeps your content more consistent! Be sure to pick something you either love or really enjoy writing about. Especially if you plan to make an income from your blog!
So you’ve narrowed down a niche and know exactly what you want your blog to be about. Now it’s time to get hosting! For only $3.95 a month you can get AMAZING hosting with a company called Bluehost. I highly recommend them. With this hosting provider you’ll also have access to fantastic support, and have all your questions & concerns answered.
Bluehost also lets you secure your domain name. So this is a great time to also pick out your domain name, while setting up your hosting. It’s a 2 in 1! Get Bluehost here.
Pick a Theme
Aside from picking a niche, finally designing and customizing your blog is really fun! Start off with picking out a color palette & designing your logo. This will keep your branding memorable and consistent.
Now go on the hunt for a theme that inspires you. I love all of the themes by Restored 316:
So pick a theme, and then after that, get to work on customizing the layout & design to your personal preference! While technically a website is always being added onto and updated, do your best to stay consistent, and don’t constantly change the look of your website (like I used too).
Remember that niche you brainstormed for your blog? It’s time to bring that to life! Instead of writing a bunch of posts with no direction, I’d focus on writing “foundation content” for your blog first. Meaning posts that will always be relevant and needed, no matter the date. This is a great place to include affiliate links, and bring consistent traffic to your site.
However, when you start writing on your blog, stick to a posting schedule! Starting out, I’d only recommend publishing a new post or two, every week. This will get you used to writing more frequently, and your readers will know exactly what to expect from you. Using a printable planner is a good way to keep you on track!
